Previewing the Auckland economy
Oftentimes the economy is analysed retrospectively by examining what had been. This time, we want to look at what is to come in order to showcase the economic opportunities and pockets of growth for investors.
Nick Hill, Chief Executive of Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) is the man who is permanently in the loop. He has to. In his role leading ATEED to host major international events, attracting foreign business investments and creating public-private partnerships to foster growth, Nick is well-positioned to identify hidden opportunities in our city's economy that have the potential of prospering Aucklanders on a macro- and micro- level. In doing so, he will give you the insights you need to become future-ready.
Talking points
- ATEED at a glance: background, objectives, main activities and overall vision for Auckland.
- Auckland economy: From the perspective of ATEED what has been driving economic growth in Auckland and what will be driving future growth.
- Migration and housing: the effects ATEED activities have on net migration/population growth/housing demands.
- Events and 2021: The economic legacies left behind by major events and how that translates to prosperity at a micro-level. Major events in 2021 and what is being done now to prepare the city for it.
- Overseas businesses and investors: What are some of the priority industries/sectors ATEED attract to Auckland and what are theses businesses’ activities in Auckland.
- Regional growth/prosperity: What do projects like The Southern Initiative seek to deliver and why it is important to ensure a
more equitable distribution of our recent economic growth.
