Ever-evolving tenancy laws in New Zealand have, of late, significantly broadened landlords' obligations and thus changing the rules of landlord-lording in a way that demands all long-term investors to sit up and pay close attention. This Residential Tenancy Panel is designed to help you explore the current state-of-play alongside successful principles of landlord-ing. We are mindful that the rules of residential tenancy affect landlords differently.  While each panelist will give a short prepared speech, the bulk of this session will be opened to questions from the floor and thus ensuring a more individualised learning opportunity for each and every participant.

Steve Watson, National Manager, Compliance and Investigations for Housing and Tenancy Services

Steve has a 35-year career in law enforcement and regulation. He was previously a Police Officer, but his last 10 years have been spent with Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment and its former agency the Department of Labour. His previous roles include Compliance Manager for Immigration New Zealand, National Operations Manager of the Labour Inspectorates and his current role. He was awarded an MBIE Chief Executive leadership Award in 2016 for his leadership the all of Government collaborative regulatory work in the Immigration and Employment fields for the Canterbury Rebuild. You will be familiar with Steve who has been quoted by the media of late on exemplary fines for smoke alarms and rental tenders in Wellington

Shelley Erceg, Rental Manager, Barfoot & Thompson 

Shelley joined the Epsom branch of Barfoot & Thompson in 2000. Having worked in sales administration and as the Sales Manager of a successful sales team, she moved into property management within the Epsom branch in 2010. Since moving into the role as Rental Manager the rental division has doubled its portfolio size and has been recognised in the top 10 of the company consistently for the past 5 years.

Huw Evans, Property Manager, Barfoot & Thompson

Huw loves what he does, entering his 12th year leading the Barfoot and Thompson, Ponsonby Branch Rental Team his team is able to bring in excess of 25 years combined property management experience in the Central and West Suburbs of Auckland. Huw's ultimate goal is to offer the most innovative and responsive property management business with outstanding service. Something his team's clients, landlords and tenants are currently enjoying.
